  • Jupiter: The fifth planet from the Sun, and the largest of all solar system planets. It is a gas giant that is surrounded by many orbiting Moons, some of which can be seen with a small telescope.



  • kelvin: A measurement system of thermodynamic temperature adopted under the System International d'Unites. Solar temperatures are often given in kelvin.

  • Kuiper Belt: A region of the outer solar system that starts past the orbit of the planet Pluto and extends out approximately 34 to 50 astronomical units from the Sun.



  • light-year: The distance that light travels in one year. One light-year is about 5.9 trillion miles

  • Luna: The proper name for Earth's Moon.
